Crispy Baked Chicken Wings

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (NOT baking soda)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Sauce Options:

  • Buffalo Sauce:

    • 1/2 cup hot sauce (like Frank's RedHot)
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
    • A pinch of garlic powder
  • BBQ Sauce:

    • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce (use your favorite brand or homemade)
    • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
    • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (for a little tang)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Wings: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). In a large bowl, mix together the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the chicken wings and toss until they are evenly coated with the seasoning mix.

  2. Initial Bake: Place a rack over a baking sheet. Arrange the wings on the rack in a single layer. This setup allows air to circulate around the wings, making them crispier. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes at 250°F (120°C).

  3. Crisp the Wings: After the initial bake, increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C). Continue baking for 40-50 minutes or until the wings are golden brown and crispy, flipping them halfway through.

  4. Prepare the Sauce: While the wings are baking, prepare your sauce. For Buffalo sauce, combine hot sauce, melted butter, white vinegar, and garlic powder in a bowl. For BBQ sauce, mix barbecue sauce, honey or brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar in another bowl.

  5. Toss the Wings: Once the wings are baked and crispy, remove them from the oven and immediately toss them in the sauce of your choice until evenly coated.

  6. Serve: Serve your wings hot with celery sticks, carrot sticks, and your favorite dipping sauce like blue cheese or ranch dressing.

This recipe gives you the best of both worlds with the option of a spicy Buffalo sauce or a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. Either choice will deliver delicious, crispy wings that are perfect for game day. Enjoy your Super Bowl party!

Valentine's Dessert Recipe

Chocolate Fondue

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces high-quality chocolate (dark, milk, or a mix), finely chopped
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • Optional for flavor: 2 tablespoons liqueur (such as Grand Marnier, Chambord, or Amaretto)

Dippers:

  • Fresh strawberries, washed and dried
  • Banana slices
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Marshmallows
  • Pound cake or brownie pieces
  • Pretzels or potato chips for a salty contrast

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dippers: Arrange the dippers on a platter or in separate bowls. Make sure all fruit is dry to ensure the chocolate sticks well.

  2. Heat the Cream: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer gently. Do not let it boil.

  3. Melt the Chocolate: Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth and fully melted. If the chocolate doesn't melt completely from the residual heat, place the saucepan back over very low heat and stir constantly until smooth.

  4. Add Flavorings: Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, stir in the vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and the liqueur (if using) until well combined.

  5. Transfer to a Fondue Pot: Pour the melted chocolate mixture into a fondue pot set over a low flame to keep the chocolate warm and melted. If you don't have a fondue pot, you can serve the chocolate in a heatproof bowl; just keep in mind that you may need to reheat it gently over the stove if it starts to thicken.

  6. Enjoy: Use fondue forks or skewers to dip the fruits, cake pieces, marshmallows, and other dippers into the chocolate. Encourage mixing and matching to find your favorite combinations.

This chocolate fondue is a simple yet romantic dessert that's perfect for ending your Valentine's Day dinner on a sweet note. It's not only delicious but also offers a fun and interactive experience as you and your partner explore different flavor combinations together. Enjoy your Valentine's Day celebration!
